The next lecture in the Design Talks 2018 series is with Clara von Zweigbergk, Swedish designer and art director best…
A meeting with Lorenzo Damiani will conclude the 2012 edition ofDesignTalks on Thursday 14th June from 18.30. Style-less: the lecture borrows the title from Damiani’s recent exhibition at the Achille Castiglioni Studio Museum in Milan, following also its philosophy of calling attention to the manifold similarities between the designer’s approach and one of the greatest design masters of all times. For this reason Damiani will be accompanied by Giovanna Castiglioni, Achille’s daughter and the very soul of the Foundation. During his talk the two of them will engage in dialogue with Ali Filippini, faculty member at SPD and teacher of contemporary design
Born in 1972 in Milano, Lorenzo Damiani, graduated in Architecture and took a master from SPD. He’s one of the most experimental voices of the Italian scene today, still linked to an industrial and user centered idea of design. The unpretentious yet brilliant solutions that Damiani is able to put forward, expressed through a language that naturally solves the relation between formal aspects and function, is the common thread between his work and Castiglioni’s philosophy.
In twenty years Damiani has carried out almost 100 projects, often starting from the observation of simple, everyday objects and proceeding through a genuine trial and error process. A quarter of them are currently being produced, some others still haven’t managed to find a company to accept the challenge. Finally, personal research, not necessarily giving rise to commercial products, is also a fundamental part of his work as a a result of a genuine curiosity towards materials and processes and of a taste for the unexpected.
Damiani has worked with many companies including Campeggi, Cappellini, Skitch, Illy Caffè, Ceramica Flaminia and Diamantini e Domeniconi.
He exhibited his projects in numerous solo and collective exhibitions both in Italy and abroad; he has participated in various competitions and has been awarded with many important prizes including the prestigious Compasso d’Oro and the Good DesignAward.
