Walter De Silva comes to Milan after twenty years, as President of the Mobility Design Lab, the research and training…
Excitement is growing for the next DesignTalks! conference onWednesday, May 28th at 6.30 p.m.. Special guest Erik Kessels, cofounder and creative director of , will present the work of the Dutch advertising agency, internationally renowned for its radical and often provocative approach that is leaving a strong mark on contemporary communication culture. In his career Erik Kessels has won numerous international awards. He is a photography collector and has curated several exhibititions and photography books such as the series “In almost every picture”.
Housed in a 19th century former Catholic church in Amsterdam, KesselsKramer was founded in 1996 by Erik Kessels (34) and Johan Kramer (35). The firm has rapidly made a name for itself as one of the most imaginative and unconventional communication agencies worldwide. KesselsKramer is known for an innovative and guerrilla-style marketing almost to the brink of becoming anti-advertising: the Hans Brinker budget hotel campaign for instance has the hotel promoting itself with hilarious slogans like “Now even more dogshit in the main entrance!” attracting a huge number of visitors. Even the website of the agency doesn’t blend in with the flow and questions the given rules of visibility thus intercepting the alternative tastes of a younger generation that grew up with advertising and is fully aware of its mechanisms. So that, if the internet generally provides easy access to the information,www.kesselskramer.com chooses the edgiest way hiding its identity behind hotair balloon tour providers or suppliers of teeth whitening treatments.
In spite of this unconventional creativity or more likely, thanks to it, Kessels Kramer’s portfolio brings together numerous high-profile clients including Diesel, Audi, Heineken, Nike, Levis, Fila, the English TV Channel-5, the singer Tom Waits and the Dutch postal service beside a bunch of niche brands.
Among their complementary projects, they recently launched Do, a brand featuring products thought out to give voice to the consumers’ real needs. KesselsKramer is also a publishing house specializing on visual communication and photography in particular. In 2007 KesselsKramer opened their London hub named KK Outlet: a multifunctional space including offices, a shop and a gallery for exhibitions and events.
Erik Kessels will be introduced by Silvia Sfligiotti, curator of the DesignTalks programme for the graphic design area.
