The Twenty Years of the Master’s Program in Interior Design

On February 29th, POLI.design and Scuola Politecnica di Design celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Master’s Program in Interior Design at the Polytechnic University of Milan. During the evening, the features and history of the educational path will be summarized, reflections will be made on its future developments, and the relationship with the Design System of Milan, with which the program has always engaged in dialogue, will be discussed.

The Connection Between the Master’s Program and the Design System of Milan

Established in 2004, the Polytechnic University of Milan’s Master’s Program in Interior Design, managed by POLI.design and SPD, has been a crucial milestone in the careers of hundreds of professionals.

On Thursday, February 29th, it will be celebrated with an invitation-only event at the Enterprise Hotel on Corso Sempione in Milan. Hosting the event will be Francesco Scullica (Scientific Director of the Master), Giulia Gerosa (Co-director), and Angela Mazzotti (Scientific Coordinator), along with Sofia Vedani (CEO of Planetaria Hotels). The program includes contributions from key figures in the Design System, including Gilda Bojardi (Editor of INTERNI, Honorary Master’s Degree in Interior and Spatial Design from the Polytechnic School of Design), Luisa Collina (Full Professor – Department of Design at the Polytechnic University of Milan – Faculty of the Master in Interior Design), Giorgio Tartaro (moderator, journalist, and lecturer), and representatives from Studio Simone Micheli Architectural Hero, Studio Marco Piva, Studio Progetto CMR, Studio Migliore+Servetto (the four reference studios for the development of some of the Master’s design workshops). Finally, Ludovica Serafini (Palomba Serafini Associati: PS+A) will deliver the lecture “New Vision of Living”.

The event program highlights the ongoing dialogue between the Master’s Program and the Design System of Milan—a direct relationship that translates into specific educational activities. Students are consistently involved in visits to exhibitions, shows, showrooms, museums, “homes and author places,” and significant events such as Milan Design Week, Salone del Mobile, and Fuorisalone. All these encounters are integrated into the educational path, establishing an indirect connection with design studios, brands, companies, industry magazines, media, educational and research institutions. The faculty, lesson themes, and exercises reflect the rich content and methodology, the creative and project-oriented originality of a virtuous system. A system deeply rooted in the city fabric and Italy, capable of forging connections on a broad international scale while preserving its identity. As a result, the system profoundly influences spatial design, the focal point of the educational product.

LET’S MID AGAIN is organized by POLI.design and SPD – Scuola Politecnica di Design – in partnership with INTERNI and Planetaria Hotels, under the patronage of ADI, AIPI, and FederlegnoArredo. The event is curated by Francesco Scullica, Giulia Gerosa, and Angela Mazzotti.
