Taking learning out of the classroom is a big part of what we do at SPD. Recently, our Master in Interior Design students took a trip with their professors from studio wok to visit the Showroom of Flos, a true icon in the lighting world.
Exploring the World of Flos
The goal was simple, to get a real feel for the Flos universe and understand exactly how designers collaborate with a major manufacturing company.
Walking through their space, the sheer quality of the products immediately stood out. Students learned about the history of the brand by looking at its most famous pieces and hearing stories about their collaborations with legendary designers. It was especially great to see the practical tools Flos provides for professionals, helping designers turn a creative vision into a physical reality.
Bringing the Showroom to the Classroom
The experience did not just end at the showroom. To make sure these industry insights actually shaped the students’ work, we brought the conversation back to the SPD campus.
Michele Signorini, who heads the Flos Professional Space, and Silvia Serena Bacchetta, the Flos Lighting Designers Coordinator, joined us in class. They sat down with the Master’s students for personal technical reviews of their current interior design projects. Getting direct advice from working experts made it much easier for the students to grasp the real challenges and best practices of managing artificial lighting in interior spaces.
About studio wok: Guiding the Next Generation
Since 2025, the Master in Interior Design at SPD Milan has been proudly led by studio wok as the Course Leader.
Founded in Milan back in 2012 by Marcello Bondavalli, Nicola Brenna, and Carlo Alberto Tagliabue, the studio focuses heavily on the concept of habitat and the true quality of everyday living. They blend landscape, architecture, and design to create spaces with incredible care and coherence. Today, studio wok balances their busy architectural practice with a deep passion for teaching and mentoring the designers of tomorrow.
