SPD students José Chamorro Salas and Mariasole Modugno are the winners of the first and the third prize respectively of a contest organized by Star to enhance creativity and innovation in the company’s product communication and express in a graphic form the many flavours of the Italian culinary tradition. The contest concluded on Tuesday 17th April with a special award ceremony held as a fringe festival event during the Milan Design week 2012.
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Gran Ragù brand, Star decided to organize also a special outdoor exhibition in Milan. 18 projects were chosen to be featured on a maxi format tin as urban decor and are currently on display in the central corso Garibaldi. Beside the winners, the Jury presided by Stefano Giovannoni selected another seven SPD entries for this exposition: Spreading tradition (Laura Giraudo), Miss Ragù (Jimena Espinosa), 50 years of taste and tradition (Isabel Lloret Fernandez), Grandma’s Gran Ragù (Daria Semina), Any Kind of hunger (Bruno Etzberger Lucini), Love, peace & Gran Ragù (Denise Feiger), Untitled (Leen Kondakji). The open air exhibition will be toured in other Italian cities: Rome, Bari, Turin and Naples. Furthermore some of these projects are expected to be presented on the packaging of STAR products and sold in “limited edition” starting from May 2012.
Star packaging design has constantly played a leading role in creating a symbol of Italian taste and food style. SPD students managed to create an innovative and emotional new communication style for the brand while keeping its consistency with the brand and respecting the linguistic codes of a popular mass market product.
