November 2024 – SPD Scuola Politecnica di Design, Italy’s first school dedicated to design disciplines, marks a significant milestone in its history with the appointment of Raffaela Scognamiglio as Managing Director. This announcement comes during a celebratory year for the institution, which commemorates both the 70th anniversary of its founding and the 100th anniversary of its visionary founder, Nino Di Salvatore.
A strategic vision for the future of SPD
As Managing Director, Raffaela Scognamiglio will spearhead SPD’s strategic direction, ensuring its academic programs remain at the forefront of contemporary design trends. Her mandate includes redefining the school’s vision, expanding its curriculum, and reinforcing its position as a global leader in design education.
Key areas of focus
Several core areas will be prioritized, including fostering partnerships and networks with industry leaders and academic institutions, promoting sustainability and social responsibility through initiatives aligned with global goals, and enhancing alumni engagement to build a vibrant SPD community. Additionally, Scognamiglio will work to elevate SPD’s international presence and influence.
Extensive experience in Design and Innovation
With over 14 years of experience, Scognamiglio brings a wealth of expertise from her tenure at POLI.design – Politecnico di Milano. She has held senior roles such as Chief Business Development Officer and Corporate Relations Manager, managing client portfolios, developing new markets, and cultivating international partnerships. She also led innovative training programs, including the Master in Service Design and the Service Innovation Academy.
A global perspective
Beyond academia, Scognamiglio has made significant contributions to international humanitarian projects. She worked with the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), managing high-profile fundraising campaigns and coordinating partnerships with global private sector leaders. Her experience also includes leading missions in Africa and India for projects funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
