Luca Deriu

Luca Deriu has been experimenting in the field of 3D computer graphics since the late 1990s and began his teaching career in 2007, both in Italy and abroad. After moving from Mantova to Milan, he founded PlaySys in 2007, where he carries out projects that combine cutting-edge technologies, ranging from virtual reality for the automotive and interior design sectors to gamification for digital entertainment, with a meticulous approach to development code and interactive 3D representation.

Selected in 2025 for the American cohort of the Unreal Fellowship, one of the most prestigious and selective programs in the world for developers promoted by Epic Games, Luca has published several technical manuals on rendering (published in Italy by Hoepli) and developed innovative 3D lighting software such as Real IES, Real HDR, and Real PBR, a path-tracing–based rendering tool. Over the years, he has also developed and released numerous other specialized 3D graphics tools used by companies and professionals worldwide.

Together with his team at PlaySys, he collaborates with leading companies and has forged international partnerships with ByteDance, Microsoft, Oculus, and PlayStation. As an educator, he stands out for his ability to examine and explain deep theoretical concepts, annually training hundreds of designers with a comprehensive vision of the 3D computer graphics world.
