Alessia-Caliendo

Alessia Caliendo is an Italian journalist, editorial project manager and lecturer whose interdisciplinary practice spans visual culture, contemporary publishing, fashion, design, communication and education. Over more than fifteen years, she has developed a professional and intellectual trajectory at the intersection of writing, image-making and cultural production, working across editorial, academic and institutional contexts. Her approach considers publishing not simply as a medium of communication, but as a critical space in which images, language, material culture and contemporary identities are constructed, circulated and interpreted.

Educated at the IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, Caliendo subsequently pursued specialist studies at Central Saint Martins in London and the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York. Bringing together design education, visual research and editorial practice, her work has progressively moved beyond conventional disciplinary boundaries to connect journalism, photography, visual direction, fashion studies and contemporary visual culture.

Her professional experience encompasses international editorial publications, advertising campaigns, visual productions and cultural projects. In 2017, she joined Condé Nast Italia, producing content across titles including Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair, Glamour, GQ, Wired and La Cucina Italiana, while also contributing to the educational activities of the Condé Nast Academy. Her wider editorial work includes collaborations with Domus, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, L’Officiel, HTSI – Il Sole 24 Ore, VDNews, Lampoon, Leather & Luxury, TechnoFashion, Exibart and Artribune.

Alongside her editorial work, teaching, critical enquiry and knowledge transmission have become central dimensions of her professional and intellectual practice. She has taught, lectured and delivered workshops across a range of academic and professional educational environments, including Polimoda, IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, SDA Bocconi School of Management and Leica Akademie.

Her teaching and research interests focus on visual communication, contemporary publishing, image culture, editorial processes and visual storytelling, with particular attention to the ways in which images and words shape cultural narratives and systems of representation. Situated at the intersection of journalism, visual research, education and cultural production, her work explores publishing as both a creative discipline and an interpretative framework through which contemporary culture can be examined and understood.
