Alessandro Villa alternates design activity with teaching; since 2003 he is an adjunct professor in “Interior Design” at Politecnico di Milano and more recently in “Design and Creativity” at IULM Milan. From 2010 to 2024 he has been faculty member and professor in “Materials for Interiors” at SPD Scuola Politecnica di Design. Visiting professor at the Tongji University of Shanghai and Goenka University in New Delhi.
He has been working on long-term research projects focused on innovation (3M, Fincantieri), comfort perception (Fiat Auto) and the contemporary concept of beauty (Nivea-Beiersdorf) on behalf of international companies and Politecnico. He is an expert in materials and finishes for interior use with a specific interest for visual and tactile qualities of surfaces, involving senses and perceptive aspects. In 2004 he opened his interior design practice, also covering architecture and visual communication.
The practice designs houses, offices, showrooms and commercial set ups. Among the projects, the offices for the advertising agency Dorland Ayer in Milan, the flagship showroom for Lorenzo Riva maison, Davines and Mozzanica Headquarters, winner of the Prize “Ceramic and Design” in 2021. The works of the studio have been
published on interior design magazines and by Italian and international press.
