On Monday December 9th SPD Transportation and Car Design students showcased their work in the 2013-2014 Master’s degree show held at the school premises. The work from the students impressed the audience made of professionals from the automotive industry for the quality of the ideas and the level of execution. Top-level representatives from Volkswagen, the school’s academic partner, joined the event: Walter De Silva, VW Group Head of Design, Filippo Perini, Lamborghini Head of Design, Alessandro Dambrosio, VW Konzern Head of Interbrand Projects, Klemens Rossnagel, Head of Design Research and responsible for the projects with the universities at Audi, Brett Boydell from Bentley and Vitalis Henss from Italdesign, Jorge Diez and Julio Lozano from Seat.
The 2014 students’ exhibition focussed on the projects completed in association with Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini. The collaboration with these leading brands is part of the long-term partnership that SPD has established with Volkswagen Group Design since 2004 in order to provide young and emerging talents with highly specialised training, an annual scholarship program and an important gateway to employment thanks to the intern positions made available to the students from the various design centres of the group.
The 14 projects introduced by the students themselves were initiated in January 2015. Visuals and professional-standard models summarized the entire development process. Each presentation encompassed the ideation phase with works in the earlier stages of the project, the design of both exterior and interior as well as the final Alias, clay and hard models. The proposals were supervised respectively by Klemens Rossnagel from Audi, Vitalis Henss for Bentley and by Alessandro Salvagnin together with Michele Tinazzo from Lamborghini that supported the school’s faculty.
The graduating students are now involved in the selection process in order to gain one of the positions available at the various studios of the Volkswagen Group Design. As in November 2013, the students have been invited to Munich where they had the opportunity to present their portfolio to the Audi design team at the annual Audi Universe event. More hiring opportunities are currently under discussion with Lamborghini, Volkswagen and Italdesign.
