Ji Lee from Google Labs at SPD on Monday May 3rd
Creative Director of Google Labs, Ji Lee focuses here on his personal projects forwarding his professional career.
Great excitement around the conference Ji Lee, Google Labs creative director willl give next Monday May 3rd at 18.30 at SPD: the Transformative power of personal projects. After a short introduction by Silvia Sfligiotti, DesignTalks’s curator for graphics and communication, the lecture will concentrate on how Ji created, financed, and marketed personal projects single-handedly such as the ad-spoofing Bubble Project in 2002. Lee placed blank speech bubbles on ads around New York City. The masses responded and the project went viral, gaining Lee recognition and ultimately forwarding his professional career. The conference is open to the general public and will be held in English.
Lee now works as the creative director at Google Creative Lab in New York, an
in-house advertising and marketing department at Google which is responsible
for promoting Google brand and products to the world. Born in Seoul, Korea, and
raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Ji Lee moved to New York to study Graphic Design.
After his studies, Ji worked in the fields of design, art, branding, and
advertising. Past jobs include Saatchi & Saatchi and Droga5. Past clients
include Google, Unicef, The New York Times, Nike, P&G, Coca-Cola, Samsung,
New Museum among others.
Ji Lee is the founder of the Bubble Project and the author of two books: “Talk Back: The Bubble Project” and “Univers Revolved: a 3-Dimensional Alphabet”. Ji’s work has appeared in ABC World News, The New York Times, Newsweek, Wired, Boing Boing, Gizmodo, among others.
DesignTalks is the lecture series promoted by the Scuola Politecnica di Design SPD exploring the most interesting research trends in design, architecture, graphic and multimedia. Internationally renowned speakers are invited to share their work and ideas with the SPD community, offering the most diverse insights into contemporary professional practice.
